Book Discussion on [From Slavery to Freedom] - C-SPAN Video Library"Mr. Franklin spoke about his book From Slavery to Freedom: A History of African-Americans, published by Knopf. The book provides an account of the African-American experience from their origins in the civilizations in Africa, through years of slavery in the New World, to the successful struggle for freedom in the West Indies, Latin America and the United States. The book, currently in its eighth edition, was originally published in 1947. During the event, Professor Franklin describes how he came to write this book, as well as the impact that writing the book had on his career and intellectual development. He also discussed the mixed reviews the books received when it was first published, as well as some issues pertaining to the publication of subsequent editions. Following his remarks he answered questions from the audience"
